THE STORY
The Safe Harbor Play Festival brings original short plays to the stage across two weekends. Four programming blocks—Silence, Impact, Belonging, and After Dark—offer audiences a range of stories, perspectives, and theatrical experiences.
Each selected play receives two performances. The festival lineup and individual play synopses will be announced after selection.
FOUR BLOCKS. FOUR WAYS INTO A STORY.
Each block brings together plays with a shared emotional or thematic focus. These are curatorial groupings rather than rigid genres; a play may touch on more than one theme.
Stories that invite you to lean in.
Intimate plays exploring grief, memory, loneliness, regret, longing, and the things we struggle to say. Silence makes room for the unspoken and the emotions that live beneath everyday conversations.
Stories that challenge and provoke.
Bold, urgent plays about conflict, injustice, power, morality, social issues, and cultural tension. These stories confront difficult questions and give audiences something to talk about long after the performance.
Stories about finding your place.
Plays exploring connection—with other people, with community, and with ourselves. Family, friendship, identity, acceptance, love, healing, chosen family, and resilience come together in stories about being seen and finding a place to belong.
Stories that venture into the unexpected.
Horror, suspense, psychological drama, dark comedy, surrealism, science fiction, fantasy, and experimental theatre share this block. After Dark welcomes the strange, the unsettling, the macabre, and the wonderfully unexpected.
